My Favorite Cygnar Casters and Lists

I know that Haley3 and basically anything in Gravediggers is setting the world on fire at the moment, but firstly, I own two trencher models, neither of which has been assembled during the three or so years I've owned them. Secondly, I know that I don't have the skill to manage moving a Haley3 cloudwall and not clock out on turn two - I'm not even going to bother trying.

I've got a few casters and lists that I absolutely love, and I'd like to share them right now.

STRYKER 1

My first and favorite list is the Stryker1 list I brought to the first and only steamroller tournament I've ever attended.

I call this list Funline.

Stryker1 (Heavy Metal)
Squire
Centurion
Centurion
Lancer
Charger
Storm Strider
Alain Runewood
*Cyclone
Journeyman
*Charger
Sword Knights (min)

Stryker and Junior have two arcane shields, and those go on the centurions, who march up front and center to take whatever the enemy can dish out. On Stryker's feat turn, they're unchargable ARM29. Come at me, bro.

The marshalled cyclone is an old favorite of mine, and Runewood giving it reposition 5 is pretty amazing. It can trample/repo on turn one to get 13" up the board, then stay well back after throwing down covering fire. Or it can aim for 2d3 RAT 8 POW 14 shots.

The lancer stays back most of the game until it's time for him to arc an earthquake for the assassination. Then he runs up, and the cyclone, chargers, and storm strider let loose on the knocked down caster. This wins games.

The sword knights are chaff. They get blur, and I've had opponents spend two full turns putting everything they have into these eight points of my army while the rest shoots and advances. The sword knights are DEF16 vs shooting and DEF15 vs melee, which is pretty nice. The thing that really makes them sad is blast damage.

STRYKER 2 (YOLO!)

Yup, my second caster that I'm digging is Stryker 2. I avoided him for a long time because games would take 4 hours to play. His feat turn alone would take me 45 minutes to play out. Not exactly something I can do on deathclock. But after ditching the list with two units of stormblade infantry, I've started to play him quicker. And after I recently acquired a second unit of stormlances, I finally realized how good that is. On feat turn, each of those stormlances can get 2 impact attacks, the assault shot, the lance charge, the e-leap, then the feat attack, then a second e-leap. That's bananas. Get a firefly with positive charge in place, and that's some serious damage. Presently, I'm running the following list.

Stryker2 (Storm Division)
Squire
Ol'Rowdy
Lancer
Stormlances (max)
Stormlances (max)
Laddermore
Rhupert
Junior
Firefly
(15 more points of something)

Yeah - that last bit of the list is in flux. Presently, I've got a unit of stormblade infantry + UA + Savio Montero Acosta. But I'm not sure I want them more than... I'm not sure what else. I might also replace Acosta with a stormblade captain because I like the idea of charging with lances, repositioning back, then having the stormblades charge through them. Of course, that's in a perfect world, which of course never happens.

NEMO 3 (Despite the nerf)

Despite him getting nerfed, I'm not giving up on Nemo3 yet. Nemo1 remains my favorite of the Nemos, but they say that Nemo 3 is still good, so I'm going to try him out. I've played exactly two games with him ever. My first was at CaptainCon this year and was very rushed, since I had to run off to the Neuroshima Hex Rhode Island State Championships. My second was about a week before the Nemo3 nerf, and I top of two'd an opponent for the first time ever, because Nemo3 was honestly kind of crazy.

I'm looking to run him for a third time soon, and this is the list I'll be bringing.

Nemo3
Squire
Dynamo
Lancer
Firefly
Hammersmith
Storm Strider
Junior
Firefly
Jakes
Thunderhead
Field Mechanics (min)
Field Mechanics (min)

I don't own a second storm strider, and I only own two fireflies, or else I'd have two striders in the list, and I'd consider a third firefly. During my last Nemo3 game, I found that I had zero units and couldn't score circle zones. So I added some repair crews, which should be nice with as many jacks as I've got here.

The other change I'd made to my list was in dropping the stormclad. It couldn't get the bonus focus from nonexistent storm knights anyway. I swapped it out for a hammersmith, who's going to love lightning shroud as he beatbacks across the table.

I've heard such great things about the Jakes / Thunderhead combo, but I have yet to take advantage. A defense 14 heavy sounds pretty sweet though. I'm still hoping to end up with T-Head within 13" of an enemy caster on Nemo's feat turn.

It bothers me that I don't have Arlan in this list, so I may be looking to find him a place sometime in the future.

CAINE 2 (Even though)

Yes, his runeshot nerf way back when really hurt him. But I had tons of fun playing him back in the day. There's still got to be a way to make him good, right?

Well, as I see it, the things Caine2 really wants are rangers for mark target, flare shots, knockdown, and maybe Bastian Falk for that +2 damage to magic shots. They're all things you just can't get in a single list due to theme restrictions. So I started looking for a viable way to play Caine2 out of theme, which is how I came up with this jank list.

Now, I've tweaked it since then, but I'm still not settled on what I really want. Ace is now cheaper, which is nice. The range 14 shadowfire, the stealth, it's all stuff Caine wants. I've also settled on putting Gallant on Jakes with sidekick rather than having Caine give him pathfinder. That blessed purgation sword now threats 12", and Falk can give it an extra +2 damage. Gallant is a DEF15 heavy, and you can't knock him down.

I'd really like to get a Hurricane in this list, but it's so many points. I don't need the arc node, but having the hurricane's slam gun could be a game-changer. Caine only needs to be within 19" of a knocked down caster, and it wouldn't matter if that caster were on a hill behind a wall - he still hits on anything but snakes. Plus, that hurricane is a great spot to hide behind. If only I can fit the points. I dunno, the GMCA-marshalled avenger lets me threat 18" with a knockdown shot, perhaps I should stick with that.

This is the least formulated of my lists, and it'll still be a while before I get Caine back on the table.
